Poster Design:
Creative Mornings
I wanted to create a city type vibe with this poster. This is an event for creative types and for this kind of event to be practical to attend on a Friday morning, you would at least need to work in the city and probably live close to it as well. My inspiration comes from a time in my life when I was living in Pittsburgh and working at a bagel shop. I would have to walk from the north side to downtown early in the morning. My favorite part of that walk was crossing the bridge and seeing the sun rise over the city. There were beautiful, bright colors in the sky while most of the city was still in shadows. It was breathtaking and always made me feel excited.

The poster has a very high contrast, graphic look to it. I knew from the start that a sans serif font would be the most likely choice. I also wanted it to be bold and easy to read. I used Century Gothic Reg, Bold, and Italic. I liked how this font was clean, sharp and wide. I felt that the O, C, and G repeated the circle shape of the doughnut. I used shapes and color to create a mood and achieve an asymmetrical balance. I employed the use of diminishing size, overlapping, shading, and blurring to give the design depth. I feel that this is a solid design. I am beginning to see a few areas that could be tightened up a bit. I think this will be a great portfolio piece. I love that I have all the phases lined up in one place. I like being able to see all the steps from conception to completion.
